Locating Company & Industry Information

The Hunt Library has many resources available for students interested in company and industry information.

Locating a Company's Competitor

Below are the instructions for locating a company's competitor:

Business Source Complete
Provides access to scholarly journals in the disciplines of business, marketing, management, accounting, finance and economics.
1. Type the company name in the search box and click on Search
2. Use the Source Type drop down menu click on Company Profiles
3. Click on MarketLine Company Profile [name of your company]
4. Download the company profile to view the Top Competitors within the report
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Share button, then select Create Link.

Below are the instructions for locating a company's competitor:

Mergent Market Atlas
1. Search for the company by name or ticker symbol
2. Navigate to the Analysis tab on the company's page.
3. Select Industry Peers from the left-hand menu to view a list of competitors in the same industry, both US and global. You can sort and filter this list by various criteria.
- To create a shareable link to a document, copy the URL in the browser's address bar and use the Create Proxy Links tool to create an authenticated link.

Nexis Uni
1. On the Nexis Uni homepage, click on Companies at the top of the page
2. In the search box, type in the name of your company and click on the magnifying glass
3. Using the filters, click on Company and then on your specific company listed
4. From the list of results look for company profiles from sources such as Hoover's Company Records - In-depth Records or LexisNexis Corporate Affiliations, which list the company's competitors near the bottom.

Search Tips
- Results are narrowed to the News category by default.
- Use the options in the Narrow By section on the left to further focus your results by Timeline, Publication Type, etc.
- Enclose terms in quotation marks to search for exact phrases: “law reviews”
- Use the asterisk (*) to find variant endings of a root word: brief* will find brief, briefs, briefing, etc.
- Use connectors AND, OR, NOT to separate terms and phrases: "municipal code" AND violation*
- For help using and searching this database, click on Help in the upper right-hand corner or click the Search Tips link beneath the Search box on the homepage.
- For help finding particular types of documents (cases, statutory codes, regulations, etc.), use the Get a Doc Assistance link beneath the Search box on the homepage.

Business: Insights
1. In the search box, type in the name of your company and click on the magnifying glass
2. From the list of results, click on your specific company
3. Scroll down to the Competitors section to view that company's competitors
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Get Link button.
