Preprints: Why They Are Important

This guide reviews what a preprint is, how to publish a preprint, and why preprints are important for your research goals.

Who owns the copyright?

Copyright resides with the author until such time that the author assigns their rights to another party (i.e. a traditional publisher).

If an author is concerned about the use of their work, then assigning a Creative Commons license to their work is recommended. You can learn more about Creative Commons licenses here. Authors retain their copyright when applying a Creative Commons license.

By default, all works posted in ERAU's Scholarly Commons, the institutional repository, are protected by the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License. Other CC license options are available if needed.
