While you should not be using AI to generate an entire assignment, these tools can be used to help you with your writing. Many of us already use AI in some way, since spellcheck and text prediction have been in document applications for some time. Even Turnitin is considered AI.
Always check with your instructor before utilizing AI tools for writing help as some instructors do not want any form of AI involved in assignments, while others are open to it.
Some tasks AI tools can do:
False Information: When using generative AI, there is a chance that the information could be completely fake. Whether it is a citation or piece of information, AI can 'hallucinate' and provide something made-up. Make sure anything you discover using AI can be found elsewhere.
Bias: Generative AI is trained on data produced by people, which means any bias in that data is then transferred and even amplified by AI.
Currency: The data AI is trained on also has limits when it comes to the currency of information. When using AI you might get out of date information or no information at all.
Privacy: Many AI tools use what you are prompting to train the AI further. Be careful with what information you are inputting.
