There are several ways you can utilize AI to help you in your research while still completing your own work.  The shortcuts that AI can provide will allow you to deepen your search and discover more with the library.

  • Create a list of topics you could research
  • Create a list of keywords for your searches
  • Create a search string to help you discover the most relevant sources

Risks when using AI for Research

False Information: When using generative AI, there is a chance that the information could be completely fake. Whether it is a citation or piece of information, AI can 'hallucinate' and provide something made-up. Make sure anything you discover using AI can be found elsewhere.

Bias: Generative AI is trained on data produced by people, which means any bias in that data is then transferred and even amplified by AI.

Currency: The data AI is trained on also has limits when it comes to the currency of information. When using AI you might get out of date information or no information at all.

Privacy: Many AI tools use what you are prompting to train the AI further.  Be careful with what information you are inputting.
