OER: Open Educational Resources: Become an Advocate!

Help you and your friends save money with free textbooks.

OER are textbooks and other materials that are free to access. Become an OER advocate on your campus with any of these three easy steps:

  1. Share with friends via social media and by posting flyers.
  2. Discover an OER or a Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) course.
  3. Thank your teachers who use OER

How can you advocate for OER at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University?

OER Team - Students are welcome to join the OER Team, which consists of librarians, faculty, and other staff the are involved in the support and promotion of OER. It is important to have voices representing all aspects of open education. Please reach out to commons@erau.edu for more information.

Individual or Group Projects - Students may be interested in advocating for OER usage through individual or group projects. If so, please reach out to Heather Leonard, Open Education Librarian at Hunt Library, at heather.leonard@erau.edu if you need more information or advice on ways to help out.

 

Advocating for OER

Faculty and staff can advocate for OER in a few different ways:

Share

  • Talk with colleagues about OER and the different sources you've found. 
  • Tell colleagues about the services and resources that the Hunt Library offers to help with OER.
  • Share new and info about OER at ERAU and around the world.
  • Share your OER successes with colleagues.

Discover

  • Browse the information available in this research guide and other websites to learn more about OER.
  • Find resources available for your courses.
  • Get support from librarians at the Hunt Library for your OER projects.
  • Attend Open Education events to learn more about what's new in OER.

Lead

  • Adopt, adapt, or create OER materials for your courses.
  • Join the OER Team to lend your voice to the discussion about OER at ERAU. Contact commons@erau.edu for more information.
  • Submit a proposal to create an OER textbook.
  • Get nominated to be a Textbook Affordability Champion or nominate others that are working with OER.
