The mission of Embry-Riddle’s Open and Affordable Textbook Initiative is to provide high-quality, low- or no-cost educational resources to students, and to assist faculty members in adopting, adapting, and creating their own Open Educational Resources (OER) and courses.
Charter: The Open and Affordable Textbook Initiative Committee (previously OER Committee), composed of campus stakeholders representing the libraries, faculty, staff, and students, will explore issues and processes related to the identification and adoption of OERs at ERAU. This will include identifying best practices and community needs related to OER, raising awareness of OERs as a substitute for costly textbooks, recommending processes that support use of OER, and addressing related issues as they arise.
At Embry-Riddle, we take a holistic approach to textbook affordability, through our Open & Affordable Textbook Initiative. OER is one of several tools we use to ensure our students have access to high-quality, effective materials for free or reduced cost. If open is not an option for you (or not an option yet), a library owned resource or other freely available resource may be possible instead.
Hunt Library will work with you to find resources, create coursepacks in Scholarly Commons that blend open and library resources, or consider purchases of electronic textbooks for your class. OER created by ERAU faculty can also be hosted or published in our institutional repository, Scholarly Commons.

The library is here to help you find, create, and host open and affordable options.
