Recommended Databases

The following are recommended databases for locating scholarly articles, dissertations, theses, and conference papers for this subject.

AOPA Accident Analysis Database
AOPA's Accident Database covers general aviation accidents and allows searches by keyword, NTSB number, tail number, and more.

ch-aviation
Provides access to essential data sets on airlines, aircraft, airports, and operators from across the globe.
Select Aircraft, and then Accidents & Incidents to access data. The Flight Safety Foundation provides the accident and incident information. Ch-aviation's fleet and loss data are used to provide aircraft and loss main and subcategory information.
Please note: Not all ch-aviation modules are available to Hunt Library users. Access includes:
- News (latest news)
- Operators (operator search, start-ups, winners & losers, commercial IT)
- Lessors (quick search, advanced search)
- Aircraft (aircraft search, orders, charter search, utilization, history, accidents and incidents)

Returning Users
1. Go to the ch-aviation Login page. You may need to log in with your ERAU account to access the resource.
2. Log in to the ch-aviation website with the free account you created with your ERAU email address.
NTSB Aviation Investigation Search

Contains civil aviation accidents and selected incidents that occurred within the U.S. from 1962 to present.
The full text of most NTSB documents (NTSB's major investigations) is available on the Hunt Library's NTSB Reports webpage.

Search Tips
- Fill in any specifics you are looking for in the search form, for example, Engine Type in the Aircraft section.
- Multiple fields can be filled in.
- Search terms can be typed in the "Enter your word string below" box located in the "Events Details" section.
- Click on Submit Query.
- Click on the various hyperlinks available in the Reports column to view information about accidents of interest to you.
- You can also download your search results by using one of the download options located at the top left of the results list.
NTSB Case Analysis and Reporting Online

Includes all NTSB recommendations (1967-present) and data from all NTSB aviation investigations (1962-present) and surface mode investigations from 2010-present.
For aviation investigations before 2008, search using the NTSB Aviation Accident Database & Synopses database.

Search Tips
- To begin your search, select Investigations or Recommendations.
- Fill in any specifics you are looking for in the search form, for example, Aircraft category in the Aviation Investigation Fields column, and click Search.
- For additional search options, including Engine type, Airport ID, and more, click the Custom Search link at the top of the page and select using the Field drop-down menu.
  - Multiple fields can be added using the Add Rule feature.
  - To search by keyword, from the Custom Search page:
    Click Field.
    Hover your mouse cursor over Common Investigation fields and then Other. Select Finding text.
    Type keywords into the Query value field.
    Click Add Rule.
    Click Search.
- NTSB Safety Recommendations are searchable by safety recommendation number, recommendation text, and addressee name.
- For help using and searching in the database, click on Help near the upper right corner of the screen.
Statista

A multitude of international statistics on populations, industries, economics, media, opinion, companies, politics, lifestyles, and many other topics. Includes ready-made statistical charts, graphs, and tables.

The following are recommended databases for locating technical reports (technical and scientific research) on this subject.

ICAO eLibrary

Public access (read-only) to the publications repository of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), featuring Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) on international civil aviation, Conventions and Related Acts. Free registration required.
- Free registration is required. Click Register in the top right corner.
  - Registration allows use of the My Notes, My Highlights, and My Bookmarks features.
- Provides read-only, public access to ICAO's regulatory and legal documents
- Content is available in all six official UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish).
NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)

NASA-created and NASA-funded materials including conference papers, NACA documents, images, journal articles, photos, meeting papers, patents, research reports, and technical videos.
National Technical Reports Library (NTRL)

U.S. government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business information from more than 200 U.S. government agencies.
TRID

Contains citations and many links to full-text books, journal articles, technical reports, and conference proceedings from the Transportation Research Board.

eBook Databases

Ebook Central

Extensive collection of ebooks on a variety of subjects, such as aviation and human factors.
- Bookshelves are based on your ERNIE login. (Older versions of bookshelves were overridden.)
- A separate Ebook Central account is no longer required for the use of Bookshelf, highlighting, and downloading features.
- You can add books to your Bookshelf by clicking on the Add to Bookshelf link located on the left of the book’s Detail Page or by placing a bookmark on any page within the book.
- For most books the print/download limit is 40% of the book's pages. Printing or downloading a chapter or page range do the same thing and deduct in the same way based on the pages allowed. Both options create a PDF that does not expire.
- Check the "Availability" section, on the Detail Page, or in the Book Details side panel to see how many copies are available and if it is for Online reading or Download, or both.
- You can change the language of the interface by clicking on Settings in the navigation bar and clicking on Language. Choose your language and save the changes.
- To share ebooks or chapters, click the Share Link to Book button.
- For help using and searching in the database, click the question mark icon (?) in the upper right corner, or use their Help Guide
Request Items
- Books not available full text online in this database may be available in print. Search for the title in EagleSearch to see if the library owns a print copy. Visit the Borrow and Renew (Access Services - Circulation) page for help in checking out material.
- If you see that a book is "Available on request," you may read the book online for up to 5 minutes. Click Read Online to do so.
- Click on the Request button or request this book link to fill out the form to request the library purchase it if you cannot locate it in our catalog.
eBook Collection (EBSCOhost)

Books on varying topics related to humanities, leadership, management, accounting, and engineering.
- To create a free account, click on Sign In at the top of the page and then click on Create one now or sign in with an existing Google account.
- To use the download, notes, and folder features, users must create a free account and sign in.
- The number of pages that can be printed from any book depends on the book. After you click on Print Pages or the Download symbol for a section, a box will appear to display the total allowable number of pages that can be printed.
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Share button, then select Create Link.
Gale eBooks

Specialized reference sources such as almanacs, encyclopedias, and books on a variety of topics.
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Get Link button.
Taylor & Francis eBooks

Full-text ebooks from publishers CRC Press, Routledge, and more, on topics including engineering, technology, international relations, business, and computer science.
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Share button, then click the Copy Link button, and use the Create Proxy Links tool to create an authenticated link.
TRID

Contains citations and many links to full-text books, journal articles, technical reports, and conference proceedings from the Transportation Research Board.

Documentaries, interviews, educational films, performances, and news clips spanning subjects such as business, film, health, history, music, and more.
- To create a shareable link to a document, copy the URL in the browser's address bar.
Films On Demand

Educational films and documentaries for all academic disciplines. Content from PBS, TED, the BBC, National Geographic and more.
- To create a Films On Demand account, click on the Your Profile link in the upper right corner in desktop view or on the menu icon in mobile view.
- By creating an account you can create customized playlists, which can be shared by a persistent URL.
- To create a shareable link to a video, click the Share button, then click the Embed/Link tab, and copy the Record URL.
