Recommended Databases

The following are recommended databases for locating scholarly articles, dissertations, theses, and conference papers for this subject.

ACM Digital Library

All Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) journals, magazines, proceedings, and transactions as well as citations from major publishers in computing.
- May not work with older versions of Internet Explorer.
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Share button, copy the URL, and use the Create Proxy Links tool to create an authorized link.
- To Export citations to RefWorks:
  1. Check the boxes to the left of the citations
  2. Click on Export Citations at the top of the results list
  3. Choose to export as BibTeX
  4. Click on the download icon
  5. Open RefWorks
  6. Click on Add along the top
  7. Choose Import References from Other file types.
  8. Locate the file
  9. In the search box type: ACM and choose BibTeX ACM Digital Library
  10. Click on the Import button.
Advanced Technologies & Aerospace Database

Provides citations, abstracts and some full text articles to aeronautics, astronautics, computer & information technology, meteorology, communications and space sciences journal articles, conference proceedings, NASA documents, and technical reports.

arXiv

Openly accessible, moderated repository for scholarly articles in the fields of physics, mathematics, computer science, nonlinear sciences, quantitative biology, quantitative finance, and statistics.

To download articles, you may have to make configuration changes to your browser. See Configuring Your Browser in arXiv's Help section for instructions.
ASCE Library

Research from the American Society of Civil Engineers, including journals, conference proceedings, books and standards.

ASME Digital Collection

Journals, ebooks, and conference proceedings from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Search Tips
- Click Advanced Search to search by author, Digital Object Identifier (DOI), paper number. etc.
  - Under the Update Search heading on the left, use the Filter drop-down to select a category.
  - Click Add term to add another term/search field.
  - Click Update to finalize search.
- Use an asterisk (*) at the end of the root of a word to find all variants: engineer* will find engineer, engineered, engineering, etc.
- Enclose terms in quotation marks to search for exact phrases: “crew resource management”

ASTM Compass

ASTM’s standards (both current and historical versions) and many UNE and EN versions of ISO and IEC standards.
- Read the License Agreement and decide whether you accept the terms or not. If so, click on the I Agree and Continue button. If not, close the database.
- Users must create a free account to use tools such as bookmarking, annotating, and sharing. To create a free account, click on Sign In/Register at the top right.
Business Source Complete

Journals, trade publications, market research reports, industry profiles, and SWOT analyses in the disciplines of business, marketing, management, accounting, finance and economics.

Dimensions

Open access publications, datasets, citations, and other research documents from fields such as engineering, medicine, physical sciences, and information systems. This free version does not include access to the grants, patent, policy or clinical trial information.
Google Scholar

Locates articles, theses, books, abstracts, court opinions, etc. from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other scholarly-focused web sites.
IEEE Xplore Digital Library

Journals, magazines, conference proceedings, transactions and standards in areas such as electrical engineering, computer science, electronics, media and more.

PLOS ONE

Research articles in biology, genetics, and medicine from the Public Library of Science.
ProQuest Central

Provides citations, abstracts, and some full-text items covering all subject areas including business and economic journals, magazines, trade, and journals in psychology and computing.

SAE Mobilus

Technical papers, standards, ebooks, and related publications from SAE International.

Sage Journals

Scholarly journals in the areas of human factors, ergonomics, psychology and engineering.

ScienceDirect

Scholarly journals and ebooks in the areas of physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, health sciences, social sciences and humanities.

Scopus

SPIE Digital Library

Optics and photonics technical papers from SPIE journals and conference proceedings.

Taylor & Francis Online

Scholarly journals in education, humanities, social sciences, technology, and more.

Web of Science

Provides access to citation/abstract details for hundreds of thousands of worldwide publications such as journals (including open access journals), conference papers, books, and book chapters. Includes journal impact factors in the Journal Citation Reports tab.
- Web of Science includes a subscription to Journal Citation Reports (JCR), a tool which analyzes citation references, measures research influence and impact at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals. DTIC Online: Public Technical Reports

Searches declassified Department of Defense and government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business-related documents from the Defense Technical Information Center.
NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS)

NASA-created and NASA-funded materials including conference papers, NACA documents, images, journal articles, photos, meeting papers, patents, research reports, and technical videos.
National Technical Reports Library (NTRL)

U.S. government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business information from more than 200 U.S. government agencies.

eBook Databases

AccessEngineering

McGraw-Hill resources and publications including instructional videos and classic books such as Marks’ Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers and Perry’s Chemical Engineers Handbook.
- To create a free AccessEngineering account, click on the My account button on the right side of the homepage. Then, choose Log in via email/username and click on Register.
- To use features like printing, downloading, and text annotation, sign in with an AccessEngineering username and password.
- Downloadable Excel Spreadsheet Calculators covering a range of common calculations across several disciplines are available. Click on Spreadsheets.
- If you have access issues, clear your browser's cache and cookies. If you are using the Chrome browser, please try an alternate browser such as Firefox.
Ebook Central

Extensive collection of ebooks on a variety of subjects, such as aviation and human factors.
- Bookshelves are based on your ERNIE login. (Older versions of bookshelves were overridden.)
- A separate Ebook Central account is no longer required for the use of Bookshelf, highlighting, and downloading features.
- You can add books to your Bookshelf by clicking on the Add to Bookshelf link located on the left of the book’s Detail Page or by placing a bookmark on any page within the book.
- For most books the print/download limit is 40% of the book's pages. Printing or downloading a chapter or page range do the same thing and deduct in the same way based on the pages allowed. Both options create a PDF that does not expire.
- Check the "Availability" section, on the Detail Page, or in the Book Details side panel to see how many copies are available and if it is for Online reading or Download, or both.
- You can change the language of the interface by clicking on Settings in the navigation bar and clicking on Language. Choose your language and save the changes.
- To share ebooks or chapters, click the Share Link to Book button.
- For help using and searching in the database, click the question mark icon (?) in the upper right corner, or use their Help Guide
Request Items
- Books not available full text online in this database may be available in print. Search for the title in EagleSearch to see if the library owns a print copy. Visit the Borrow and Renew (Access Services - Circulation) page for help in checking out material.
- If you see that a book is "Available on request," you may read the book online for up to 5 minutes. Click Read Online to do so.
- Click on the Request button or request this book link to fill out the form to request the library purchase it if you cannot locate it in our catalog.
eBook Collection (EBSCOhost)

Books on varying topics related to humanities, leadership, management, accounting, and engineering.
- To create a free account, click on Sign In at the top of the page and then click on Create one now or sign in with an existing Google account.
- To use the download, notes, and folder features, users must create a free account and sign in.
- The number of pages that can be printed from any book depends on the book. After you click on Print Pages or the Download symbol for a section, a box will appear to display the total allowable number of pages that can be printed.

Gale eBooks

Specialized reference sources such as almanacs, encyclopedias, and books on a variety of topics.

MIT Press Direct Books

Scholarly ebooks on a variety of topics, including biomedical sciences, business and finance, computer science, cognitive science, environment, game studies, humanities, neuroscience, and social sciences.

O'Reilly for Higher Education

Technology and business books covering topics such as programming, IT networking, project management, graphic design and corporate strategy - along with videos, case studies and self-assessments.

- If you have not used the database before:
  1. Click on the Select your institution dropdown menu and select Not listed? Click here
  2. Enter your Embry-Riddle email (erau.edu or my.erau.edu) to log in.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email to complete setup.

  1. Click on the Select your institution dropdown menu and select Not listed? Click here
  2. Click on the Already a user? Click Here link
  3. Sign-in with your email address and the password you created.
- If you keep returning to the same ebook, try clearing your cookies or cache.
- Books cannot be downloaded to Kindles.
- You may download the O’Reilly app so that you can sync across devices and not lose your place. Download on the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon.
- Playlists can be created to help you stay organized. To create or manage a playlist:
  1. On the top right, click on the head icon and then choose Playlists.
  2. Click on the red Create Playlist button
  3. Add a name and then click on Create Playlist
  4. Now that you have created the playlist, you can add to it by using the Add to playlist icon when you are viewing content

Educational films and documentaries for all academic disciplines. Content from PBS, TED, the BBC, National Geographic and more.
- To create a Films On Demand account, click on the Your Profile link in the upper right corner in desktop view or on the menu icon in mobile view.
- By creating an account you can create customized playlists, which can be shared by a persistent URL.

Kanopy

Documentaries, independent and foreign films, classics, and instructional films.
- To create a shareable link to a video, click the Share tab, then click the Copy Link button.
- If a video is unavailable, please complete the Request for Access form to submit a request to the library.
PBS Video

Select PBS episodes from series such as Masterpiece, FRONTLINE, American Experience, Secrets of the Dead, Austin City Limits, Need To Know, NOVA, NATURE, and Independent Lens.
LinkedIn Learning

Expert-led course videos for developing business, technology-related, and creative skills. Formerly Lynda.com.
