Integrating Sources

• Integrating sources gives your paper credibility by augmenting your argument with other author's writings. 
• A well written paper integrates sources smoothly, leaving the reader with no question of why you are including the source or which ideas are from that source.

There are three main methods of integration:

1. Quote
2. Paraphrase
3. Summarize

Quote:  

The exact wording of a source.

A Pew Research Study found that, "Social media helps teens feel more connected to their friends’ feelings and daily lives..." (Lenhart, Smith, Anderson, Duggan, & Perrin, 2015, p.6).

Paraphrase:  

Putting the source in your own words.

A Pew Research Study found that teens use social media to understand their peers' lives more deeply (Lenhart, Smith, Anderson,  Duggan, & Perrin, 2015, p.6).

Summary: 

The key points of the source.
  
A Pew Research Study found that teens use social media, online gaming, and mobile phones to meet friends, interact with peers, and gain a greater connection to others (Lenhart, Smith, Anderson, Duggan, & Perrin, 2015, p.6).
