Criticism of Poetry

We recommend searching the following databases for criticism of poetry:

Literary Reference Source
1. In the search box near the top of the page, type in the poem's title followed by the terms: and author's last name e.g. "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and Frost.
2. On the results list, and under "Source Types," click on Literary Criticism.
3. Click on HTML Full Text or the title to view an article.
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Share button, then select Create Link.
MLA International Bibliography
1. Type in the poem's title in the search box and search.
2. Use the "peer reviewed" drop-down menu on the top of the screen to choose only peer reviewed material.
3. Beneath the article title in the search results, a link for "Full Text" or "Full Text - PDF" will appear if the full text of the content is available.
- To create a shareable link to a document, click the Share button, then select Create Link.
ProQuest Central
1. Type in the poem's title in quotation marks followed by the terms: and critic* e.g."Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and critic*.
2. Quotes are used to tell the database that the words enclosed must be searched as a phrase.
3. The asterisk (*) is a truncation symbol which allows the computer to search for variant word endings such as critic, criticism, etc.

1. Type in the poem's title in quotation marks in the search box.
2. You can browse for criticism of poems by clicking on "Document Type" on the right menu bar and then clicking on Criticial Essay.

1. Type author into first search box.
2. On the right menu bar select the drop-down menu that says "Document Type" and choose Critical Essay, then search.
3. Select Full Text and Peer Reviewed Journals from the "Limit Your Results" menu.
