Astronomy

The American Astronomical Society (AAS) is the major organization of professional astronomers in North America.The AAS seeks to increase public support for scientific research, improve science education at all levels, attract young people to careers in science and technology, and make evident the connections between science, technology, and prosperity.

The International Astronomical Union is a collection of professional astronomers, at the Ph.D. level and beyond, active in professional research and education in astronomy. It acts as the internationally recognized authority for assigning designations to celestial bodies (stars, planets, asteroids, etc.) and any surface features on them.

Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) is a non-profit that empowers young people to participate and make an impact in space exploration. SEDS helps students develop their technical and leadership skills by providing opportunities to manage and participate in national projects as well as to attend conferences, publish their work, and develop their professional network, in order to help students become more effective in their present and future careers in industry, academia, government, and education.

A mutually beneficial association of institutions of higher education in the southeastern United States which have relatively small departments of astronomy and physics, and whose faculty members are all actively engaged in astronomical research.
