U.S. Airline Mergers and Acquisitions

1. Click on the Search by Content Type dropdown box, located above the main search box.
2. Under ”Companies,” click on the link for Dossier (Company, Executive, Industry).
3. Click on the Industry tab.
4. If you don’t have an exact industry name or SIC, click on Browse Industry Hierarchy and keep narrowing down your options; click OK.
5. You will be brought to an Industry Overview. Click on Mergers, located in the left sidebar under “Reports.” The report will include a table of data on top mergers by price offered.
6. Scroll down to the bottom of the table of mergers and click on the link More Mergers.
Below is a list of aviation-related industries with merger information available in Company Dossier with their corresponding SIC codes:
- 4512 Air transportation, scheduled
- 4513 Air courier services
- 4522 Air transportation, nonscheduled
- 4581 Airports, flying fields, & services

Search Tips
- Results are narrowed to the News category by default.
- Use the options in the Narrow By section on the left to further focus your results by Timeline, Publication Type, etc.
- Enclose terms in quotation marks to search for exact phrases: “law reviews”
- Use the asterisk (*) to find variant endings of a root word: brief* will find brief, briefs, briefing, etc.
- Use connectors AND, OR, NOT to separate terms and phrases: "municipal code" AND violation*
- For help using and searching this database, click on Help in the upper right-hand corner or click the Search Tips link beneath the Search box on the homepage.
- For help finding particular types of documents (cases, statutory codes, regulations, etc.), use the Get a Doc Assistance link beneath the Search box on the homepage.

Bankruptcies

Note: The two resources below are referenced in the "data and methodology" section of the article entitled "Bankruptcy protection and stock market behavior in the US airline industry," Journal of Air Transport Management, 13 (4), July 2007, pages 213-220 by Stephen X.H. Gong. He states: "A list of all US airlines that have filed a bankruptcy since 1978 is first obtained. In the absence of a publicly available, official compilation, we have relied mainly on Air Transport Association [now named Airlines for America or A4A] (2006) and LoPucki (2006)."
