HeinOnline’s Federal Register Library is a complex database with numerous ways to locate information. Take advantage of the many tutorials and guides offered via the "Help" link in the upper right corner of the page. Search "federal register" to lcoate guidance for this collection.
For a basic search, enter desired terms in the "Search Federal Register Library" box: airlines smoking
Enclose terms in quotation marks to search for exact phrases: “solo flight time”
Use an asterisk (*) at the end of the root of a word to find all variants: nation* will find nations, national, etc.
Use the "Refine Your Search" menu on the left side of the results page to further focus the results.
Click on the title of a document to display it in its entirety.
Click on All Matching Text Pages below a citation to display the parts of a document which contain your search terms.
For help using and searching in the database, click on Help in the upper right corner of the screen.
You must create a free account to use features such as printing, the Bookshelf, highlighting, and downloading.
To create a free Ebook Central account, click on the Sign In link at the top right and then click on the Join Ebook Central button.
For most books the print/download limit is 40% of the book's pages. Printing or downloading a chapter or page range do the same thing and deduct in the same way based on the pages allowed. Both options create a PDF that does not expire.
Check the "Availability" section, on the Detail Page, or in the Book Details side panel to see how many copies are available and if it is for Online reading or Download, or both.
You can change the language of the interface by clicking on Settings in the naviagation bar and clicking on Language. Choose your language and save the changes.

Good to Know
An optional, free MyNAP account is available allowing users to more easily and quickly download PDF files, maintain a book list, add bookmarks and notes, and get reading recommendations. To register, click the Register link in the upper right corner of the NAP home page.
A MyNAP account is not required to read or download books. However, for downloading, you will be required to log in as a guest with your email address and will be repeatedly asked if you wish to create an account.
Files can be downloaded as complete books or individual chapters (where available).
The Adobe Reader program is required to download NAP files. To download Reader or update to the latest version, visit https://get.adobe.com/reader/.
To find a specific book, enter terms from the title into the Search box, then click the SEARCH icon. Alternatively, enter the ISBN (International Standard Book Number), if known, in the Search box. Do not use hyphens: 9780309370981 instead of 978-0-309-37098-1

To browse the collection, click the BROWSE BY TOPIC icon to open a topic menu, then click on the desired topic.
To search within a book, first open the desired book, then enter search terms in the Search this book... field in the upper right corner of the book window. (Most NAP books are searchable in this manner, but not all.)
