This database has 6 fields that are searchable. Each field has different parameters for searching. Instructions for each field are below.
If you would like further instruction, you can read the SIBR user aid, or watch the video.
The results list has an additional field that you cannot search: FR Citation. This field is the document number for the Federal Register. Not all standards in this database has a corresponding FR citation.
There are four fields that have links to outside sources:
FR Citation links to the Federal Register
CFR Citation links to the specific Code of Federal Regulations
Document Number links to the standard
Standard Publishing Organization links to the organization homepage
Only CFR Citation and Document Number will have links for every item.
The Incorporated By (Agency) search field uses the full name of the agency. This means that any acronym, such as FBI, will not yield results. When you type in the field, a list of options will appear that contain the word you are typing. It does not have to be the first word of the agency for it to appear on the list, e.g. typing in Federal also has Commission on Structural Alternatives for the Federal Courts of Appeals:

If you select an option from the list, you will need to click on the Apply button at the bottom of the box.
The CFR Citation field allows you to search by a specific title, part, subpart/section, or even other elements such as appendices. As with the Agency search, suggestions will appear based on what you are typing. You can do a broad search for a title, or search by an exact CFR citation. Please note that not all CFR citations will have matching standards.
If you just enter a number, your results will include CFR citations that have the number in the title, part, section/subsection, or other elements.

So if you want to browse a specific title or part, you need to format your search. For the title, make sure to include CFR after the number: 14 CFR
For a specific section, you will just add to it: 14 CFR 43
The Document Number search allows you to search by exact document number or you could browse by publisher acronym. For instance, searching ISO will return all documents with ISO in the document name. This will not always give you all ISO standards in this database, since there are documents that have ISO that are not issued by the International Organization for Standardization.

Typing all or part of the standard you are searching for will yield results. It does search for exact titles so typing in multiple words means it is searching for a document with all those words e.g. typing indoor air quality will search for that specific phrase:

As with the Agency field, you cannot use acronyms in the Standard Publishing Organization field. When you type in the field, a list of options will appear that contain the word you are typing. It does not have to be the first word of the organization for it to appear on the list.

You can search any part of the name of the organization and browse the results.
The Keyword search field is more limited than the usual searches. Here, it searches only the other 5 fields. It will not search the document text. As with the other fields, it will show suggestions as you are typing.
